Residents of San Miguel del Padrón, in the province of Havana, made an unfortunate discovery this weekend, finding the body of a baby in the buildings located on 4th and 8 Vías, near the Las Piedras club.
Videos shared on social networks show the moment in which several people gather around the body, which had already been wrapped in a white cloth on the grass of a nearby roundabout. The images also confirmed the presence of at least two agents and a patrol from the National Revolutionary Police (PNR).
At this time, the circumstances of the minor’s death are unknown, but authorities have already launched an investigation. Some online versions claim that the body showed signs of having been attacked with a sharp weapon, and that an organ was missing, however, this information has not been officially confirmed.
Some comments suggest that the child was approximately six months old, however, another one of the Internet users stated that there was a newborn handle in the area, so he may have been abandoned shortly after birth.
Now, the authorities have ordered that a visit be made to all pregnant women in the area, this to determine if any of them gave birth outside the hospital. A member of the Facebook group ‘Cuban mothers for a better world’ indicated that her mother, who works as a nurse, was ordered to visit pregnant and lactating women in the area, a strategy widely used when finding those responsible for abandonments on the Island.
Cases like this have become more frequent in recent years., with one of the most recent being recorded at the end of 2023, when the body of a baby was found in a sewage stream in the province of Holguín.
Official sources indicated that the body was found in an advanced state of decomposition, and that it had possibly been damaged by predatory fish in the area.a.
In March of that same year, the body of a newborn was found at the ‘Héctor Ruiz Pérez’ School of Sports Initiation School (EIDE), in Villa Clara. After an investigation, it was discovered that her mother was an 18-year-old basketball student, who gave birth to the baby secretly with the help of another person and then threw him from the second floor.
On that occasion, it was learned that the authorities also ordered to visit all pregnant and lactating women in the area, however, this was of no use because because the student had managed to hide her pregnancy and it was not in the records.
The young woman was discovered after she went to the hospital, because the placenta, which had to be expelled during childbirth, remained inside her and caused complications.
