The German Federal Motor Transport Authority regularly counts which are the most common cars on German roads. The winner is undefeated, but there are only minor changes in the back places.

The VW Golf is becoming less common on German roads, but can easily defend its title as by far the most common car in Germany. In total, the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) leads him 3.73 million times in the freshly published statistics of the cars registered on January 1st. That is more than twice as many vehicles as with the number two, the VW Polo, with 1.50 million vehicles . Ranks three and four are followed by Opel Corsa and Opel Astra, each with 1.19 million registrations and only a few hundred cars difference.
Mercedes C-Class more than a million times in Germany
The two Opel swapped places in the ranking, as did the cars in fifth and sixth place: in the KBA, the Mercedes C-Class with 1.073 million registrations is now just ahead of the BMW 3 Series, which comes to 1.071 million.
The VW Passat as seventh in the ranking has 1.03 million registrations ahead of the Audi A4, which includes the S4 and RS4 and 0.94 million. Ninth and tenth places go to the Ford brand with Fiesta and Focus, which were counted 0.88 and 0.85 million times.
20 percent more SUVs on German roads
What is striking in the statistics is that all ten most common models are becoming rarer, even though the total stock has grown by 1.3 percent. The biggest declines were at 5.5 and 5.0 percent for Astra and Passat.
SUVs, on the other hand, are not among the 10 most common cars, even if the population in their segment has grown the most with almost 20 percent. With a total of 3.77 million, all of them are only slightly more common than the Golf.
