There’s something weird about that photo. A documentary about repulsive evil fascinates overseas critics

“Netflix once again ‘growls’ in human misery and pretends that it mainly wants to inform us,” says film critic Mojmír Sedláček about the documentary The Girl from the Photo.

A woman dies by the side of the road, leaving behind a son and a man who is said to be her husband. The Netflix streaming service promises a documentary about a big mystery that will get on your nerves.

As the cast of characters grows, a number of heinous crimes surface in the documentary, and the narrative eventually spans several decades. “In the documentary, we jump in time, but the jumps are often not clear, the climax of each such part is a twist like from a telenovela,” claims the critic.

According to Sedláček, American reviewers are fascinated by the power of the story and the reminder of the evil in the human heart. “However, it is difficult to take more than the fact that some people are incorrigible sociopaths,” adds Mojmír Sedláček.
