The worst result in eight years. New car sales are steadily declining, change will not come immediately

Sales of new passenger cars on the Czech market are constantly falling. In the first seven months of this year, they fell by more than 14 percent year-on-year, the worst result for this period since 2014.

Sales of new passenger cars continue to decline, in the seven months of this year they fell by 14.3 percent year-on-year to 112,364 vehicles. This is the lowest number for this period since 2014. In July, the year-on-year decrease was more than a quarter. This was announced today by the Association of Automobile Importers (SDA).

The cause of the decline is mainly the long-term reduction in production of most manufacturers due to missing parts. According to SDA, an improvement in sales can only be expected in the following months.

The composition of cars in demand has not changed much. In terms of brands, Škoda Auto continues to be the best seller with 35,704 registered passenger cars, followed by Hyundai with 11,495 cars, Volkswagen with 9,330 cars sold, Toyota and Kia. The best-selling model was the Škoda Octavia (7,239), ahead of the Škoda Fabia (6,925) and the Hyundai i30 (5,054).

Within the business classes, SUVs are in first place with a share of almost 44.5 percent. In terms of fuel, gasoline leads with 66 percent of the market, while diesel accounts for roughly 25 percent. On the contrary, registrations of cars with an alternative drive are increasing, year-on-year by a third to 21,178 units. The number of registered electric cars increased by more than 56 percent to 2,229.

Motorcycles are better. Their sales rose by almost a fifth year-on-year to 17,956 machines. The first is Honda this year with 3,529 registered motorcycles, followed by CF Moto (1,642) and Yamaha (1,212).
