the town hall is going on a crusade against dog poop

How to fight against the scourge of dog droppings on the sidewalks of Dijon? The municipality will hit dog owners in the wallet: a fine of 135 euros for each ticket.

In Dijon, dogs are welcome but not poorly educated owners. It is one of the new slogans, brandished in banner by the town hall of Dijon. The municipality is on a crusade against dog excrement because, since the first confinement, the latter litter the sidewalks.

This contributes to the degradation of hygiene and the image of the city.

“The idea is not to punish in order to punish” explains Dominique Martin-Gendre, the deputy mayor of Dijon, in charge of cleanliness.

This is to be dissuasive and alert people who are not very attentive to public space because this generates a number of things that are not very pleasant, such as the risk of falling, pollution of urban space. .

Since December 11, 2020, the law is intended to be more dissuasive: not picking up the droppings of your pet is liable to a 4th class fine of which the amount is 135 euros and maybe increased to 375 euros.

The new article R.634-2 of the penal code provides for the same sanction for a dog owner as for someone who degrades the public highway by throwing a surgical mask, a butt or who urinates.

To raise awareness among animal friends in Dijon, the city has launched a large poster campaign.

It is difficult to explain the causes of this form of incivility : are there more dogs in Dijon? Are owners less attentive to cleanliness?

There has been a relaxation for several months. With the lockdown and curfew, dog owners may be observed less at night.
