A few weeks ago, PureCharts revealed the ranking of the best physical and digital sales. With a second posthumous album, Johnny Hallyday took the lead in sales in France in 2019, with 420,000 copies, ahead Brol, from Angèle with 342,000 copies and Phoenix, from Soprano with 279,000 copies.

The National Union of Phonographic Publishing released its record sales figures for 2019 on Monday.
Angèle recovered the head (532,100) followed by Nekfeu for The Wandering Stars: Expansion with (449,600 sales). Le Taulier descended to the third step of the podium (433,700 sales). Moreover, in the unveiled ranking, French-speaking music is particularly well represented: of the top 25 bestsellers of the year, 24 are French or French-speaking artists.
For Alexandre Lasch, director general of the National Union of Phonographic Publishing, the year 2019 confirms Parisian than “the richness and renewal of French production”.
The proof, the only international exception in this almost 100% French-speaking ranking is Lady Gaga, whose soundtrack for the film A Star is Born ranks seventh best seller of the year.
“It’s a record: 161 of the 200 best-selling albums are produced in France and three out of four albums are sung in French. This proves that, when the public has a choice, it goes to French albums sung in French, this which is good news for radio stations. It also proves that record labels are investing in new talent and that their work to bring them to fruition is paying off. “
He adds that“‘a quarter of the best sales are first albums. Starting with that of Angèle, who sold all year and stayed 39 weeks in the top 5”.
