The theater consists of the staging. That is, to represent live a story or situation in which different characters interact. It has transcended throughout history for different purposes, such as educational, religious or entertainment, but always as a tool to communicate ideas on a massive scale.
It takes place on a stage but, nowadays, it can be in any public or private place, before a large or small audience, with little or no participation in the development of the interpretation.
The theater space can be full of stage material, that is, setting or decoration, as well as props and costumes to characterize the character. Or, in any case, it can be an empty space that allows the viewer to imagine the environment.
Elements of the theater:
Stage: It is the background on which the action occurs.
Props: Objects with which the actor interacts.
Actors: The most important thing in the play. They are the ones who carry the work.
Libretto: It is the dramatic text that contains the indications to represent the work.
Costume: It serves to characterize the characters and give them context.
Among the most successful plays in the world, we can highlight examples such as Hamlet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo and Juliet, all written by William Shakespeare. Likewise, we can mention works by other writers such as: The Divine Comedy, Life is a Dream, The Phantom of the Opera, Fuenteovejuna, among many more.
Where to see theater in Peru?
There are many cultural spaces in our country. In the capital, we can mention the Gran Teatro Nacional de Lima, Teatro Municipal de Lima or several cultural centers. However, there are more spaces in Peru because each region has its own Municipal Theater, such as the Municipal Theater of Tacna or the one of Arequipa.
