ART MADRID e Hybrid Art Fair.

The Economic and Cultural Office of Taipei in Spainin collaboration with the Taiwan art gallery “Yiri Arts”, organizes the Taiwan Art Week in Madrid from February 23 to 27, which will show the personal work of two Taiwanese artists of very different styles: the poetic concept of video art by Wang Yu-song and the imaginary world of Chang Teng-yuan, who covers in a very particular way great classics of painting, among them “The executions of May 3”, by Francisco de Goya and “Las Meninas” by Velázquez.

Chang Teng-yuan’s “Parrot Man” project, in which the artist turns characters from well-known classic works into human-like parrots on colorful landscapes and motifs, will be exhibited at the ART MADRID fair from February 23-27. And “Hualien White Lighthouse” by Wang Yu-song, a poetic and timeless vision of what the place where an old, now destroyed lighthouse once stood, in the port of Hualien, suggests to the artist, will be exhibited at the Hybrid Art Fair of the February 25 to 27.

Every year at the end of February,

Large and small art fairs occupy Madrid, attracting artists and art lovers from all over the world on pilgrimage. The whole city is buzzing with the arrival of the spring arts festival. Orton Huang, artistic director of “Yiri Arts”, said: “This is the seventh time that Yiri participates in the art fair held in Madrid. Taking this opportunity to organize the Taiwan Art Week in cooperation with the Economic and Culture of Taipei in Spain, I hope that through two different generations, different mediums and different types of Taiwanese artists, the diverse and vibrant creative energy of Taiwanese art will be shown.”

Yiri Arts is one of the galleries in Taiwan that often participates in international art fairs. Since 2014, it has used the “Everyday Art Museum” as a model to pursue the dream of “letting art enter and enrich people’s lives” through its participation in international art fairs to help Taiwanese artists to shine internationally.

Participating for the first time in two major art fairs during the Taiwan Art Week in Madrid 2022, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain has launched a special printing of limited edition promotional bags. The main image of the bags corresponds to the painting “Social Media” by Chang Teng-yuan. It is not only a matter of paying homage to the work “The Executions of May 3”, by Francisco de Goya, but also of drawing attention to the link between the proposal and the Spanish artistic legacy known throughout the world.

The public will be able to appreciate the works of Taiwanese artists and get limited bags in the exhibition area by presenting the tickets of the admission tickets of the two fairs.
