‘The Social House’ quits after death threats

The internet series ‘The Social House’, in which eight Flemish influencers lived together for a while in a holiday home, had already been criticized, but the discussion escalated. According to production house Wünderbaar, the participants received death threats. On Friday, ‘unwanted visitors’ even fired fireworks arrows at the house.

‘The Social House’ could be followed on YouTube and other social media since Monday. Quite a few young people thought it was wrong that the influencers could do fun things with eight in a house, while others had to adhere to the corona measures. The lack of diversity among the participants also irritated some of them.

Influencer Flo Windey agreed with their comments, slammed MEA culpa and got out of the program. The makers then announced a two-day break. Now the other influencers are also leaving the holiday home.

‘The online criticism has turned in recent days into outright online hatred that crosses all borders with death threats to the residents and hatred towards their loved ones,’ says a message on Instagram. “In the meantime, we also had unwanted visitors to The Social House, including fireworks arrows fired at the house.”

‘That was the last straw for us,’ says Roel Sweron of Wünderbaar. ‘The safety and mental well-being of the creators are above everything else. We have to take our responsibility in this. ‘ A complaint to the police is under investigation. ‘We are going to collect all the necessary items and see how we approach it.’ The police have often passed the house in the West-Flemish Westouter.

The production house is not definitively burying the program, but wants to take it again if the corona measures are relaxed. ‘The negative reactions have dominated the last few days, but we have also received a lot of positive reactions from people who want us to keep going. We must not give in to hatred, ”says Sweron.
