The next generation of the Fabia Combi will be produced. The carmaker has already officially confirmed this, the information was brought by the weekly Škodovácký odborář. The fate of the station wagon of the extended variant was uncertain for a long time, at first it was thought that its development would not continue. However, the Fabia Combi is part of Škoda’s strategy, which will offer more affordable cars in the near future than it currently offers.
Next year will see the launch of a new generation of the Fabia. At the beginning of the development, the carmaker considered ending the production of an extended version of the Combi, also because interest in conventional small station wagons has been declining for a long time. You will not find many of them on the market at the moment, in addition to the Škoda, only stock pieces of the Renault Clio Grandtour can be purchased from new cars. The smaller and more popular SUV gradually took the place on the market.
But by clearing the field, the carmaker would probably lose the opportunity to offer a smaller but still satisfactory family car for affordable money. Thomas Schäfer has already said that he would like to keep the Fabia Combi in the brand’s portfolio in September during the first short interview for Hospodářské noviny on the occasion of the introduction of the electric car Enyaq.
However, Škoda Auto has not yet wanted to confirm the return of the Fabia Combi to the development plan. In the weekly Škodovácký odborář, published on November 26, it is stated that the fate of the model is now clear.
“Mr. Schäfer told me that the production of the Fabia Combi model had been approved,” said Jaroslav Povšík, Chairman of the Works Council. “The Fabia Combi simply belongs here. It’s a bit of a budget car, and it can only be done at budget cost. It would be really interesting to see who, when and where this car could produce at such a cost, in that quality and with the right marketing, “says chairman Povšík.
“We can confirm that the next generation of the Fabia Combi will actually be produced,” Pavel Jína, a spokesman for the carmaker, said today. However, Škoda Auto does not want to provide more information yet.
