The San Luis News Agency kicks off flu immunization.

The Ministry of Health of San Luis will begin the flu vaccination campaign this Friday the 17th throughout the province within the “Full Health” Plan and in line with the rest of the country’s provinces. It will be in stages, starting with health personnel.

“We received 8,000 doses, which will be distributed throughout the territory to begin the 2023 campaign within the framework of the Provincial Plan for Comprehensive Health Care ‘Salud a Plenary’ carried out by the Government of San Luis. It will be intended for the target population, it is totally free and it will be found in all vaccinations. The idea is that before June, when winter begins, we have the largest number of people vaccinated,” explained Minister Cristian Niño, who also contributed: “We will symbolically begin Friday at 10 at the ‘Teresita Baigorria’ Provincial Maternity of St. Louis.”

The National Ministry of Health reported that this season’s vaccination strategy will be carried out in stages, in a staggered manner and according to dose availability, starting with health personnel following with pregnant people and the rest of the target population.

The doses are aimed at health personnel, pregnant people (at any time during pregnancy), postpartum people, girls and boys 6 to 24 months of age (must receive two doses at least 4 weeks apart), everyone 65 years and older, and people 2 to 64 years in risk conditions such as heart, respiratory, and kidney diseases, immunosuppression, obesity, and diabetes, among others.

The flu vaccine is free for the target population, does not require a medical order, and can be applied along with any other vaccine.. In this sense, the ministry informs that, simultaneously, the vaccination strategy against COVID-19 continues for all people 6 months and older. All those people whose last dose of booster vaccine against COVID-19 had been applied 4 months or more ago, can take advantage of the opportunity and receive both vaccines on the same day.

The flu or influenza is a highly transmissible respiratory viral disease. Generally, most of those affected recover in one to two weeks. However, it can cause serious complications, including death, to people aged 65 and over, young children, pregnant people and people with risk factors.

“We are very happy to start vaccinating at this time, we hope that the population attends, let’s remember that vaccines prevent diseases and it is important for all stages of life,” explained Niño.
