Opera “Los Comuneros”

The Center for Performing Arts and Music of Salamanca will host, on Saturday, October 2, the premiere of the opera “Comuneros”, a show produced by the Castilla y León Foundation and co-produced by Patrimonio Inteligente within the framework of the commemorative project «The time of freedom. Comuneros V centenario ».

‘Comuneros’ starts in 1517 centered on the figure of the old Cardinal Cisneros and the gestation of the revolt regarding the arrival of Carlos. The second act travels to Tordesillas, the town where the rebels arrive to meet with Queen Juana, who in isolation since 1509 has not even known the death of her father.

The opera stops in a special way in the development of the revolt, of which it provides all the keys before the beginning of the third act, set in Villalar, where the defeat and execution of the leaders of the movement took place. The two historical episodes take on special relevance in the score, which masterfully recreates the confrontation between the two armies and the subsequent execution.

Tickets are priced at 25 and 32 euros and are already on sale.

A documentary directed by Mariela Artiles, produced by Chema de la Peña from Salamanca and in collaboration with the Salamanca City Council, through the Salamanca City of Culture and Knowledge Foundation. It will be at eight in the afternoon and entry is by invitation.

Carmen Martín Gaite (1925) had parents who were open and ahead of their time, who always supported her unconditionally. The environment in which she grew up allowed her to transcend the reality of her native Salamanca and discover the vitality hidden behind the girls and women of her time, obscured by a time of rigid morality, female repression and the Civil War.

And on Thursday, October 21, at the Liceo, the documentary film “Miranda”From Salamanca director Jon Cenzual. It will be at eight in the afternoon and entry is by invitation.

Miranda is a work that straddles the fictional cinematographic narrative and the documentary that talks about depopulation and life in a town in the Sierra de Francia.

Its director, Jon Cenzual, from Salamanca, conceives abandonment as a metaphor but also as a physical object, a tangible creature that can be touched. The abandonment is so dense that it becomes a figure, because abandonment, like a low fog, permeates everything.

It is an initiatory journey and therefore a learning journey. We travel with the creature of abandonment through the Sierra de Francia and more specifically through Miranda del Castañar looking for abandoned places, houses damaged by the passage of time and abandoned lands, where the walls and olive groves are being swallowed by the forest. Miranda is synonymous with melancholy.

The film takes place in a place where time stands still, between the mythical and the fantastic, a place between progress and the traditional.

In the exhibition section, Da2 will host, from October 1 to January 16, the exhibition “Griot songs”, With a selection of works from the Luciano Méndez Collection, which has been curated by Suset Sánchez.
