The Rise of Twitter Competitors Amidst Recent Troubles: Spill, Bluesky, and More.

Jakarta

Twitter got into trouble last weekend until Elon Musk put a limit on the number of tweets users could read in a day. This policy encourages tens to hundreds of thousands of users to migrate to social media application Twitter competitor.

One of them is Spill, an application founded by a former Twitter employee. Spill just released the closed beta version of the app a few weeks ago, but they claim over 100,000 people registered new accounts on the app this weekend.

Spill has also managed to hook several well-known celebrities to join its platform, including Keke Palmer and Ava DuVernay. Singer Lizzo even went so far as to ask for an invitation to join Spill.

Apart from Spill, a Twitter competitor application that also has many new users is Bluesky. Interestingly, Bluesky was masterminded by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey.

According to data collected by third-party developers, the number of Bluesky users rose from 184,000 people on Friday to 238,000 users on Monday. That number could be much higher but currently Bluesky is still implementing an invitation system so not everyone can create an account.

Post, alternative application Twitter also said the number of daily active users has increased four times and the number of new users who have signed up has increased 10 times since last Saturday when Twitter began implementing rate limits. But they are reluctant to share specific numbers, as quoted from TechCrunch, Tuesday (4/7/2023).

Another Twitter alternative that is also a migration destination is Mastodon. They took advantage of the opportunity by launching the latest version of the Mastodon application for Android with improvements.

Mastodon CEO Eugen Rochko said the platform now has 1.4 million monthly active users. Meanwhile, at the end of last week, the number of active users increased by 294,000.

Twitter will also face a new competitor application from Meta called Threads. The application that is integrated with Instagram will reportedly be released on July 6 tomorrow.
