“The Rare and Powerful Mercedes-Benz R-Class 63 AMG: A Family MPV with 510 Horsepower”

Did you know that there is a family MPV with an eight-cylinder engine and 510 horsepower? It was only produced for a short time and is a very rare machine.

The Mercedes-Benz R-Class in the 63 AMG version offered 510 horsepower packed in a practical body. The automaker presented it at the Chicago Auto Show in 2006.

The main driver of the unusual “emp-pé-vé” was the engine: the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter eight-cylinder, hand-assembled by a single person in AMG, produced a maximum power of 375 kW at 6,800 rpm and a maximum torque of 630 Nm at 5,200 rpm. Power was sent to all wheels via a seven-speed gearbox. Mercedes boasted the ability to accelerate from rest to 100 km/h in just 5 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h, even 275 km/h for a surcharge.

The 63 AMG engine was available for both body versions of the G-Class – for standard and extended. However, there was not much interest in it, Mercedes withdrew it from the offer already in 2007. During the short period of production, only about 200 specimens were allegedly created.

That’s why we were interested to find two pieces available at one German seller. Both are in the rarer short version, which is said to account for only 84 of the mentioned 200 cars produced.

U older car we find a record of the first registration in November 2006, the odometer shows 120 thousand kilometers according to the seller. The price is 45,900 euros, which translates to about 1.1 million crowns.

A younger specimen it comes out cheaper, a vehicle registered in July 2007 and with a mileage of 134,700 km costs 39,900 euros, i.e. approximately 935 thousand crowns.
