The President of Croatia has ignited a major scandal in NATO

Croatian President Zoran Milanovi has said he will not allow Finland and Sweden to join NATO. The Croatian leader emphasized that if the issue is raised at the upcoming alliance meeting, he is ready to veto it.

“This unexpected question arose like summer rain, no one expected it. At the NATO summit, I will veto the invitations, if there are any at this level,” Milanovic told a briefing on Tuesday.

He also commented that some have started calling him a “Russian agent”, stressing that he is not afraid of anyone and can easily deal with threats against him.

“Who says I’m a Russian agent? I’m not connected to Russia in any way. I’m not afraid of either the Russians or the Ukrainians, I’ll deal with the threats,” Milanovic said.

Earlier, the Croatian president described Finland’s idea of joining NATO, just 50km from St. Petersburg, as “dangerous charlatanry”.
