The port of Barcelona approves a reduction in rates until the year 2022

The board of directors of the Barcelona’s port yesterday approved a reduction of port charges which will be in force until 2022. The measure is part of a plan to revive port activity after the economic slowdown that has caused the Covid-19 pandemic and that, according to the entity, will allow “a mobilization of resources in favor of operators of about 23 million euros ”.

The measures are, however, pending final approval by the central government, according to the procedures established in the current regulations. The plan approved by the council chaired by Mercè Conesa includes a package of short initiatives that will have an impact on revenues of 19 million and will be in effect in 2020 and 2021. This includes unique bonuses in the occupancy rates of container terminals , 25% in 2021 and 20% in 2022, depending on the volume of transhipment traffic handled. Also for the use of the multipurpose terminal (10% in 2021 and 5% in 2022), and automobile terminals (30% in 2021 and 15% in 2022). In addition, for the first time, reduction coefficients will be applied to the rates of use for vessels, passage and merchandise. The reduction in the occupancy rate in the case of passenger terminals will be 30% in concessions that have seen their activity decrease between 20% and 40% compared to 2019, and a reduction of 60% in cases in the impact has been greater than 40%.
