The Netherlands ranks sixth happiest in the world Inland

This means that our country has dropped one place compared to last year, according to the World Happiness Report published on Friday. People are happier in Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Denmark and Finland.

The researchers looked at, among other things, the years that people live on average in health, whether people have someone they can count on and the freedom to make life choices. Generosity, freedom from corruption and gross domestic product per capita also count.

The Netherlands scores high when it comes to social trust and support. The latter is expressed as the percentage of the population who feel they have someone to fall back on. Due to the situation surrounding the coronavirus, this social support will become ‘more important than ever’ in the near future, according to the research report.

Besides being one of the happiest, the researchers say the Netherlands is one of the few countries on the list where people living in cities are less happy than people living in rural areas.
