Dr. Petar Beron with a hot forecast for a clash between Radev and Borisov in the fall

It is too early to write off Borissov, the future leaders will have to work hard so that tomorrow Erdogan will say “my friend Toshko. This was stated in an interview with “Maritsa“The famous politician, zoologist and longtime director of the National Museum of Natural History Dr. Peter Beron.

According to him, there are people in today’s parliament who are not super virgins at all – Manolova and Doncheva used to be the blades of the BSP.

“If in 30 years we have gone through left, right and furious, to today’s combination in the National Assembly, then we can endure everything,” he added.

Dr. Beron, do you perceive this Parliament as a circus, what qualifications have emerged? Does it look like the Grand National Assembly in euphoria?

I don’t respect circus people, I respect the people from the circus – they are very brave and do things that others can’t. This is not the case in the 45th National Assembly.

As for the Grand National Assembly, it is incomparable to anything that has happened since then. It was a blast needed by our society. Among those 400 people who were there, some of the most prominent figures of the time – poets, musicians, playwrights, actors, lawyers.

Then there were two parties in the parliament – ours, the blues, and the reds, and among “ours” there were quite a few former and current members of the BCP, who returned their books much later.

There are people in today’s parliament who are not super virgins at all. I remember Maya Manolova and Tatiana Doncheva from the 40th National Assembly, where the BSP blades were. Now they are blades again, only they declare themselves to be representatives of the people. I do not accept anyone declaring himself a representative of the people, especially when you have barely crawled the 4 percent to enter parliament.

Now the deputies must propose their better options for governance than those of GERB, to propose better and more experienced ministers than those of GERB, people known in Europe. If we didn’t choose these people to make our lives better, why did we feed them frogs?

Will this parliament succeed in electing a cabinet?

The cabinet proposed by GERB did not have a chance to be accepted, even if it was composed of the biggest luminaries of world science and politics.

I cannot say anything about Trifonov’s party, which follows in parliamentary roulette, because of their deep silence.

Anyone can form a cabinet. In our country, everyone understands football and politics. By the way, as much as our football is, so is our politics.

Since in 30 years we have gone through all sorts of governments, left and right, and furious, until today’s combination in the National Assembly, then we can endure everything.

– Has the call “Mutri out!” Been fulfilled?

– Some of the mutts are out – one in Belgrade, the other – in Dubai, but maybe tomorrow they will blossom in the parliament, become deputies and teach us how to live, despite their 19 accusations.

The Dubai mutra party received 3.2 percent of the vote and almost entered parliament. We are far from sipping everything we have crushed. There may be more surprises at the bottom of the pot.

– As chairman of the Patriotic Union “Defense”, do you have an explanation why the patriots did not enter this parliament?

We are closely with IMRO, we have the same goals and policies. They took a lot of our people in the lists, but in more backward positions. They told me jokingly: You will stay for the elections in the fall!

They did not enter the parliament, they obviously did not calculate the strategy, I hope they will adjust for the next elections, which will not be in a long time.

Are another election a bad option?

– New elections are a bad option, because the result is unlikely to be much better, and we will have to pay them with another hundred million. There is no guarantee that something more decent will come, but perhaps elections will become inevitable, either in July or in October, two in one.

They want to change the Electoral Code. The MRF is likely to be very happy that more polling stations will open in Turkey. We know how to vote there and no wonder we will see the MRF with 100 deputies tomorrow.

It is good for Bulgarians abroad to be provided with the constitutional right to vote in order to join Bulgaria. But I deeply disagree with people with Bulgarian roots from Anatolia, San Francisco, Sydney, who do not know a word of Bulgarian, to decide who will rule our country. So the rules for voting abroad must be decided very carefully.

– Is the president pushing us towards a presidential republic?

I don’t know if it pushes us, but the proposal for the CEC to be organized and appointed entirely by the president is very bad and has nothing to do with the rules in a democracy. There are presidential republics around the world, but we do not have such traditions, and this requires a major change in the constitution.

The so-called “parties of change” have a total of 92 votes. For now, the BSP and MRF are joining them to be anti-GERB, but they are unlikely to do so when voting for a change in the constitution.

– Is President Radev’s second term tied in a towel?

He will receive serious support from the BSP, and probably from the parties of Slavi and Maya Manolova. But the outcome of the autumn presidential election depends much more on what kind of opponent Radev will face. If many people vote and there is a literate person against Radev, his victory is not tied in a towel.

– How do you see the future of Boyko Borissov?

It’s too early to write it off. Borisov is a man who has had many things in his head. He became mayor of Sofia without a party, the competitors were blown away. He ruled the country for 12 years, received a very good status in Europe, in the United States, in Turkey. They know it everywhere and support it.

Turkish President Erdogan himself called him “my friend Boyko Borissov” at the MRF congress! The leaders of the future government will have to work hard to achieve these relations, so that tomorrow Erdogan will say “my friend Toshko”, for example.

I do not believe Borissov will face Radev in the fall – he is too used to it, especially from the media.

– In these media attacks against the government, why are we criticized for lack of freedom of speech?

Reporters Without Borders puts us in 112th place in terms of freedom of speech, receiving information from offended journalists and media owners like Ivo Prokopiev who have been sued. And so we fall in the rankings after the Congo. I do not believe in the impartiality of this arrangement.

For months we have been listening to the BNR, which by law should be neutral, spit against the GERB government from morning till night. I can’t imagine more freedom than that!

Let’s not forget the times before 1989, when you couldn’t gossip about any media.

– We have been fighting corruption for 30 years, and it is claimed that we are the most corrupt in the EU. When will we win this battle?

I am extremely disgusted with those who discredit and insult their own country and people. Various people in the media are trumpeting that we are the most corrupt country. How to measure which country is the most corrupt? The term is Perception for Corruption. They ask different people and they explain how corrupt we are, although there is no proven case.

Our MEPs, I don’t even want to say their names, are gathering fellow Liberals in the EP at a gathering to insult Bulgaria, calling for us not to be given money.

Apparently they forgot what the most worthy Bulgarian politician, Petko Karavelov, said in 1892 to the journalists who asked him if he had been in the Black Mosque. “They don’t fight in my country,” replied Karavelov, who was crushed by a fight in the sinister prison.

– Can something unite us?

It is a good idea for the deputies to return to the old building, above the entrance of which is written “Union makes strength”. There is a need to argue in parliament, but when it comes to important decisions – such as fighting the pandemic, the army’s combat readiness, raising incomes, MPs must be united.

Here are the Greek neighbors – and there is opposition there, but on important issues like Macedonia, the parties turn their backs on differences in the name of the national cause. However, our politicians have a hard time swallowing their egos and swear in the name of Bulgaria.
