His Peugeot Partner had had its day. So Alain, retired Angevin, decided to change car. His good old MPV? “I gave it to my son”. The latter also drove his cousin: a Citroën Berlingo. But at 360,000 km, it was good for reform.

Its specifications? A gasoline vehicle, at measured consumption and size. “We generally drive two, except when we have our grandchildren. In addition, my garage is very small, it only contains one car. And it’s my wife who reserves it. Me, I park in the street.”
Quickly, he set his sights on a Citroën C3 Aircross 1.2 l Puretech 110hp petrol. Why an SUV? For Alain, the answer is obvious and linked to the height under the roof of the machine: “I am 1m93, and even those who sit behind me have no interest in exceeding 1m60”. The habitability is lower than that of its Partner, but whatever: Alain is looking for a car that is a little more comfortable. An appointment is therefore made at Citroën Angers in December.
A trade-in of a car that does not belong to him
Alain is not a surfer, however, in the showroom, he falls for a limited series “Rip Curl” with black rims and yellow retro. Colors that Alain does not care about. “It had the equipment I expected: the radio, rather good quality, the folding electric mirrors and the reversing radars for parking in the city.” But oddly enough, it wasn’t particularly keen on more in-demand elements like the phone interface or contactless startup. “I don’t phone in the car and I used the key to start.” In addition, the C3 is available within two weeks. The decision is made.
The car remains to be financed, displayed at 23,400 euros. The seller obviously offers him an LOA, “but he did not insist, probably a question of generation”. In an attempt to lower the price, the salesperson asks him if he doesn’t have a car to take back. Alain tells him his story and that of the Partner handed over to his son, replacing the latter’s Berlingo with its twenty springs and 360,000 km. “And there, he explains to me that the recovery of the old Citroën is no problem and that he grants me 1,200 euros for an old car that does not even belong to me. Because my son and I, we have the same Last name”. An additional discount of 600 euros, a free trailer hitch and the deal is done: Alain buys the C3 Aircross for 21,600 euros, paid for by him, without external financing.
An expected consumption
The seller keeps his promises and as a Christmas gift, on December 24, twelve days after the signing of the order form, the car is ready and the trailer hitch is installed. Since then, Alain has been quite happy with his purchase. Despite the average consumption he observed: 7 l / 100 km. “It is not a surprise. I knew that I would consume more than with my diesel of before, and that I had to add 1 l to the manufacturer’s data”. Not to be fooled avoids disappointment.
