With the rise in popularity of MMORPGs, it’s no wonder the film industry has taken advantage of this once-niche space with movies like Ready Player One, though 20th Century Fox has put a decidedly new twist on the subject with their upcoming movie, Free Guy. .
The next film stars Ryan Reynolds, who plays a bank teller who unknowingly discovers that he is a character in a sprawling open-world multiplayer video game. With a similar vibe to Wreck-It Ralph, albeit aimed at a slightly more mature audience, Free Guy has a cast that includes Taika Waititi, Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Matty Cardarople, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Lil Rel Howery, just to name. a few. Directed by Shawn Levy of Arrival and Stranger Things fame, the film gleefully explores violence and a variety of other themes, through a comic lens. In addition to the cast, the film also features a variety of noteworthy cars and a selection of Ducati motorcycles. Although its official rating has yet to be announced, Free Guy is scheduled for release in early 2021.
