“Valuable Vintage Furniture You May Have at Home: The H269 Armchair, H70 Armchair, U-453 Chest of Drawers, Brussels Chest of Drawers, and Skořepina Armchairs”

All that glitters is not gold, and many have no idea that they may have this imaginary gold hidden in their homes. At first glance, completely “ordinary” pieces of furniture, which a few years ago almost everyone had at home and happily threw away, today reach values of several tens of thousands. Interest in rare collectible pieces of furniture is growing not only on the Czech market, but especially abroad. Get to know these few valuable models of furniture that you may still own and for which collectors are willing to pay a significant sum.

An icon that almost everyone had at home – the legendary H269 armchair

The inconspicuous, yet innovative armchair, which emerged from the workshop of Czech designer Jindřich Halabala, is one of the most common pieces of furniture that end up in the bins. This model, which has decorated many homes since the 1930s, is today one of the most valuable items. Pieces are currently sold on the market in the order of several tens of thousands of crowns. The organic shape, the main element of which is a massive wooden structure forming a curved backrest, is suitable for both classic and modern interiors. In collecting circles, the H269 is considered one of the most important works of its creator.

Armchair H70 – a prized article of the cream of the past century

We don’t end the H269 scandal with this author. His next design, this time referred to as the H70, is one of the most significant Czechoslovak design pieces ever. With relatively simple but elegant lines, this armchair features curved armrests and an adjustable headrest to create an idyllic and ergonomic shape. It was made from different types of wood (oak, beech and walnut), which influence its value today. The prices of this model today are in the higher tens of thousands of crowns, and if you have at least two of them at home, the price can be even higher.

The lady from the dustbin, or throwing out this closet, cost you dearly

It is none other than the U-453. That it doesn’t mean anything to you? Look into galerie and you will discover a bit of retro furniture that you probably took to the bins a few years ago. Error. This chest of drawers, which could be said to be a socialist legend of the idea of storage space, emphasized practicality and functionality above all. Its appearance reflects the principles of modernist design such as simplicity of forms, functionality and harmony, and it would also find its place in modern interiors. The price of that piece today ranges from units to tens of thousands. How much can you buy new ones for today? stylish dressers?

Brussels is not like Brussels. You also had this chest of drawers at home

There is perhaps no sloppier piece of furniture than this one. The Brussels chest of drawers, the author of which, as with the previous model, is Jiří Jiroutek, everyone had one at home at one time or another. And although this piece may appear to be furniture junk, don’t be fooled by its minimalist appearance. Clean lines, straight edges and simple shapes can evoke a feeling of worthlessness in a person. However, upon closer inspection, it is clear that this unobtrusive cube is made of quality wood. The chest of drawers is often equipped with drawers and cabinets, which offer enough space for storing things and keeping the interior tidy. Preserved pieces with intact details are sold today in the order of thousands, although we would note here that a significant number of these models ended up in boilers or stoves.

Armchairs “Skořepina” aka the price increases with a pair

When talking about exceptional pieces of furniture, there is one name that is inextricably linked to artistic design, and that is František Jirák. His “Skořepina” armchair has become an icon of modern Czech design. He was inspired by the organic shapes of nature and wanted to create a chair that would combine art and functionality. However, I can say from my own experience that it was a little far from comfortable seating. Not many pieces of this design gem have been preserved today, and their value increases even more if you have this piece in a pair. How much does a new shell chair cost? Compare current prices, for example here.

Trampled hundreds of thousands

In addition to furniture, carpets, specifically Persian ones, are such a hidden investment. These jewels from the Orient not only adorn the floors, but also have considerable value. Collectors consider works of art that reflect the rich history, culture and tradition of the region and appreciate the rarity and uniqueness of each piece. They are made from high quality natural materials such as wool, silk and cotton. Handcrafted to ensure precision and durability. Persian carpets have long-term investment potential. Their value may increase over time.
