A shocking sight awaited the father of the family at the apartment of the mother of his children. A mother in her twenties was lying unconscious on the bed, a tourniquet on her arm and a drug syringe next to her.

The father had gone to the woman’s apartment to look for his children, when the mother and children did not arrive for the agreed counseling appointment.

A shocking situation happened in Pirkanmaa at the end of July 2023.

The mother had been in the apartment with her 7-month-old baby and her 2-year-old toddler.

The children were the sole responsibility of the mother.

Nevertheless, the 25-year-old mother used intravenous drugs during Monday morning and passed out or fell asleep on the bed.

When the father arrived at the apartment in the afternoon around 2 pm, the baby was alone in the crib. The two-year-old had moved around alone in the apartment.

Admitted the acts, denied intent

The prosecutor demanded a suspended prison sentence for the now 26-year-old mother for two counts of arson and the crime of drug use.

According to the prosecutor, the mother caused a danger to her children’s life or health with her actions. According to the prosecutor, the two-year-old child would have gotten access to the sharp weapons in the apartment and the drug syringe used by the mother.

The mother admitted to the police that she was guilty of throwing things, but denied that the act was intentional. He also admitted to using drugs.

Before the hearing, the district court had ordered the woman to be arrested and brought to the hearing. The mother was arrested yesterday, Wednesday, March 13. The session was held in Pirkanmaa district court on the same day.

The district court decided the case at the end of the session and sentenced the mother of two children to a three-month suspended prison sentence.

The mother was obliged to compensate both her children 1,250 euros for the suffering she caused.
