The mayor of the American city of Atlanta Keisha Lance Bottoms, whose name has been put forward as a possible running mate of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, announced this Tuesday, July 7, to have tested positive for the new coronavirus.

«COVID-19 has literally reached home. I had no symptoms and tested positive,Keisha Lance Bottoms tweeted. She explained on the CNN channel that she and her husband, also diagnosed positive for Covid-19, had decided to be tested because the latter had been sleeping more than usual since Thursday.

«I’m still in shock because I have no idea how we were exposed», She affirmed. She blamed her mild symptoms, headaches and dry cough, on allergies.

Seen as a possible running mate of Joe Biden, she made herself known through a poignant speech on May 29. As Atlanta, Georgia, in the southern United States, ignited in the wake of the death in Minneapolis of George Floyd, a black man suffocated by a white police officer, she called on the rioters to return home.

The United States is the country most affected in the world by the Covid-19 pandemic, both in number of cases (2,931,142) and deaths (130,248), according to the count from Johns Hopkins University.
