National ice hockey coach nominates line-up for Germany Cup

“Together to Beijing”: This is the motto for the two international tournaments next November, which the German Ice Hockey Federation e. V. aligns. While the women’s national team is fighting for one of the remaining Olympic tickets in Füssen from 11 to 14 November, the last action before the 2022 Winter Games is on the agenda for the already qualified men’s national team at the Germany Cup 2021.

For the traditional tournament, which will be held for the fourth time in the Krefeld YAYLA ARENA, national coach Toni Söderholm nominated a 27-strong squad on Friday. In the duels against Russia (November 11, 7.45 p.m.), Switzerland (November 13, 2.30 p.m.) and Slovakia (November 14, 2.30 p.m.), the DEB selection goes with three goalkeepers, nine defenders and 15 strikers.

National coach Toni Söderholm relies on an exciting mix of Olympic and World Cup participants, experienced and up-and-coming talent: “We have given a lot of thought to the current positions of the individual players who are eligible for the Olympic Games and the World Cup. That is why we rely on an internationally experienced team in Krefeld to collect further impressions and gain knowledge. Our goal is to take the players to the two important tournaments in China and Finland in optimal shape. In this respect, the Deutschland Cup 2021 is a central component in our overall planning, also to consolidate our tactical work and the way we play. That’s why we’re looking forward to the week together. “

The majority of the DEB selection are made up of players from the PENNY DEL. Four players also travel from other European countries: Tobias Fohrler (HC Ambri-Piotta) and Dominik Kahun (SC Bern) are active in Switzerland, while Stefan Loibl (Skellefteå AIK) and Tobias Rieder (Vaxjö Lakers) are from Sweden for the national team.

DEB Sports Director Christian Künast emphasizes the importance of this year’s Deutschland Cup 2021: “Our home tournament is the only measure taken by the men’s national team before the Olympic Games in Beijing. That alone shows the importance that the days together in Krefeld have for us. We are all the more pleased that fans will finally be there again, who will give our team a positive impulse for the tasks ahead. “
