The mass shooting in the USA: – We know this about the accused

– The suspect has been identified as 21-year-old Ahmad Alissa, said police chief Maris Herold in the Boulder police at a press conference on Tuesday.

She said that Alissa is being treated in hospital after being shot by police on Monday.

– He is charged with ten murders and is being produced for custody, Herold said.

The reason for masseskytingen is currently unknown, and the police have so far not come out with theories about possible motives for it.

– Deeply disturbed and paranoid

Police quickly rushed to the scene Monday, and 51-year-old officer Eric Talley was among the first victims. He has later been praised for his efforts, which is described as a heroic act. President Joe Biden has called him a hero.

Alissa is from Arvada, Colorado and has lived most of her life in the United States. His brother said The Daily Beast Tuesday that he was deeply disturbed and paranoid.

Pictures from the place on Monday showed what is supposed to be Alissa with blood running down her leg, bare torso and wearing handcuffs being transported away from the supermarket. According to court documents, he removed his clothes and was only wearing shorts when he was arrested, writes CNN.

He also did not want to say if more people were involved in the shooting when he was arrested, but rather asked to speak to his mother, it says in the documents.

– Was bullied

His brother claims to CNN that Alissa was bullied in high school, where his Muslim name is said to have been ridiculed. The family emigrated from Syria to Colorado, he says.

According to his brother, he became increasingly paranoid around 2014, and he must have sometimes thought that he was being persecuted.

– He always thought someone was behind him and followed him, he says and says that he tried to calm him down.

– We said things like ‘Come on. It’s nothing “, but he just closed more and more.

In 2019, he posted several posts on his Facebook profile where he claimed that his school had hacked his phone, writes CNN.

The brother tells the channel that Alissa was not political or religious, and claims that he has never seen him threaten or use violence.

– I thought he was never able to do something like this, to kill others. It’s completely unreal to me, and I feel frustrated for the lives he has wasted. I feel sorry for the families, says the brother.

– Played with machine gun object

The 21-year-old used a semi-automatic AR-15 rifle when he committed the mass shooting on Monday. According to court documents, he bought the rifle on March 16 – just six days in advance, writes the news agency AP.

He also wore a tactical or bulletproof vest, which he left with his rifle and clothes inside the store, the documents say.

The AP writes that after the arrest of Alissa, the police sought out his family members, among them his sister-in-law. She is said to have said that she saw him “playing with a weapon that resembled a machine gun” two days earlier.

The brother’s statements that he never saw him threatening or committing violence should also not correspond to the reality described in the court documents.

In 2018, he was found guilty of having attacked a fellow student in the class for allegedly making fun of him a few weeks earlier, by accusing him in a racist way, writes AP.

The police have released the identities of all of the deceased, who were between 20 and 65 years old.

The shooting came as another shock to the United States, just four days after a mass shooting in Atlanta, Georgia, in which eight people were killed, including six Asian-American women. It is the seventh mass shooting in the United States this year.

It was particularly shocking in Colorado, where several of the most famous mass shootings in the United States took place, among them the Columbine massacre in 1999 and the cinema shooting in Aurora in 2012.
