The Mangyan tribe in the Philippines live by their customs. The practice followed by this sect in relation to child-rearing has been severely criticized. After marriage their sons should be able to satisfy their wives. Boys are trained with this goal in mind. For that, boys are given various trainings. Boys are also given the right to take as many girls as partners before marriage. But the important fact to note is that girls do not have this training and special rights. The sect also practiced circumcision of boys who turned 13 years of age.

It is also believed that tribal chieftains competed with each other for territory and status.
