The man who mortally stabbed his wife in a beauty salon in Jackson Heights was sentenced Thursday to a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison, authorities said.

William Rivas, 39, entered ‘Tu S’tilo Salon SPA’ located on 37th Avenue, where the victim worked, Carmen Iris Santiago Rodríguez, 35 years old. He began to argue with her until the owner of the premises accompanied him outside, but he again returned to the room, this time taking out a knife and stabbing the woman repeatedly in the chest, while the other employees and the owner of the business try Prevent crime.

The police, who responded to the scene, found the defendant lying on top of his bleeding wife. Carmen Iris, mother of two children, was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital, but died from the injuries.

“Today’s court ruling punishes this defendant for committing this fatal attack of domestic violence against his estranged wife, whom he repeatedly stabbed in front of horrified spectators in his workplace,” said Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.

The children of William and Carmen Iris, who although legally married had separated, are now in the custody of the maternal grandmother and sister of the victim. They mentioned that children are very affected and that they are trying to keep them out of the situation.
