Former chamberlain of the singer Freddie Mercury Peter Freestone took over Czech citizenship on Tuesday at the regional office in Hradec Králové. Freestone, 65, has lived in the Czech Republic for 19 years, the last five years in the Hradec Králové region in the village of Třebechovice pod Orebem.

Freestone took over the citizenship during the official act together with other successful applicants for Czech citizenship from the Hradec Králové region. Czech citizenship is granted by the Ministry of the Interior.

“This beautiful country has grown with me and amazing people. I thank the Czech Republic for accepting me,” Freestone said as he took over. He reminded that he has lived in the Czech Republic for 19 years. “I’m at home in the Czech Republic, I have good friends here. There’s an amazing music scene here. There are the best musicians here,” he said. Whether he retains British citizenship has not yet been decided.

Peter Freestone worked as a wardrobe for the British Royal Ballet, later becoming the personal secretary of Freddie Mercury, with whom he collaborated until the singer’s death in 1991. In 2016, he co-authored a libretto for the ballet production Queen – The Show Must Go On. presented by the Moravian Theater in Olomouc.

As an advisor, Freestone participated in the creation of the very successful American film Bohemian Rhapsody about the rock band Queen. He introduced the creators to the life of the band and his close friend Freddie Mercury. The film premiered in 2018.
