Carry didn’t have an easy childhood, he says. Her parents have a bad marriage. “They didn’t understand each other.” Her father also prefers a son, so he always refers to Carry as “his boyfriend”. Carry therefore has a difficult relationship with him: “There is no such way to love”. Her mother does not make childhood easier for her, she is manic-depressive. “I didn’t want to miss my mother, because then I wouldn’t have a mother anymore”.
Carry is now very happy with his partner Elles, with whom he has been together for fifty years. But starting that relationship is difficult. Carry finds out through Elles that she likes women. “I was living with a guy at the time,” she says. “I’ve been with a guy for six years.” Yet he falls in love with Elles. “At one point I said I was very much in love with her. I had already told my friend. (…) She didn’t like her. She thought: I don’t like women.”
It then takes another two years before Elles gives in. Presenter Özcan Akyol is curious about that moment. “When I said: ‘I choose you’, she thought: it’s okay. She always thought: You have a man, right? I don’t want anything with someone who is already in a relationship. But when I said: ‘I love you and I choose you’ , then it was turned on. “
Carry and Elles have two children and three grandchildren. “Great, I really think it’s a gift in your life. We all live in Bergen, so I see them a lot. We babysit two days a week. (…) Sometimes I think: what a pity my parents couldn’t experience it. like this. (…) True love for loved ones, this is the best thing in life. “
