The range of Cupra Formentor crossover engines is widespread. Why is that so?

Cupra Formentor entered the market last year as a pure model of this newly created brand, the previous Ateca and Leon are just a derivative of the Seatu models of the same name. This crossover first entered the market in a powerful version with a 2.0 TSI with an output of 228 kW, however, its offer has gradually expanded to include much weaker derivatives.
The basis is a 1.5 TSI four-cylinder petrol engine tuned to 110 kW at once, which, given the overall sports focus of the Cupra brand, can seem like a low performance. However, Carlos Galindo, Cupra’s product marketing manager, logically justifies offering such motorization.
“We want to be represented in the market, so we have to sell cars. From our market analysis, we found that in Europe, more than half of sales in this category are engines below 110 kW. Many brands such as the luxury BMW or the emotional Mini have a high proportion of units with such performance, ” Galindo argues, adding that such a parent engine is also important for markets where taxes are calculated on the basis of powertrain performance.

In any case, according to Galind, even such a derivative should have characteristic properties for Cupra. “However, in collaboration with our designers and technicians, we have ensured that even such a version offers such emotions as stronger motorization and has 100% DNA Cupry,” promises Galindo and states that the first reactions to Formentor with 1.5 TSI are very positive.
In any case, Cupra does not plan weaker derivatives of Ateca or Leon at the moment, in their case weaker versions will continue to be available with Satt characters.
In any case, the Formentor also presented itself in a version that will please even those who did not have enough of the previous top with a four-cylinder with an output of 228 kW. Towards the end of the year, a new peak will enter the market in the form of the Formentor VZ5, with a five-cylinder 2.5 TSI under the hood, which is tuned to 287 kW (390 hp). “The mood is tailored to the needs of Cupry’s character,” says of the five-cylinder from Audi Galindo.

However, if you would expect the five-cylinder unit to also appear in the range of other Cupra models, the brand management has bad news for you. “We currently want to have this engine exclusively in Formentor, which is a 100% Cupra model, “ says Galindo.
In any case, the Formentor VZ5 will only be exclusive, Cupra is going to build only 7,000 pieces of this five-cylinder crossover. Conversely, sales drivers may become plug-in hybrid versions, which are expected to account for half of Formentor’s total sales in the future. Cupra wants to address them mainly in markets where such derivatives are popular due to government benefits, such as in Scandinavia or the Netherlands.
