The first ever tape, not the first victory. Bartosz Zmarzlik wins the Grand Prix in Gorican!

The beginning of the competition was hampered by the inexorable weather this speedway year. Exactly at 7 pm over Gorican it started to rain, which significantly delayed the start of the Croatian Grand Prix. Finally, the tournament managed to start around 19:30. The first series of starts began to clarify the favorites. Bartosz Zmarzlik, Robert Lambert, Martin Vaculik and Daniel Bewley started with three.

Leon Madsen started surprisingly poorly, because he was from the first grade, and was especially surprised by the fact that he was beaten by a player of the first division Landshut Devils – Kim Nillson on the route. The rider, who, as many voices said, was included in the series by accident and should stand out from the rest of the pack.

It seemed that, as in the last league match in Lublin, strong starters would rule. The surface, which was heavily wet, was unfavorable for passing passes, and thus it took away the possibility of greater aesthetic values on the racing route.

The surprises continued and in heat five the defending world champion crashed into the tape. A situation that has never happened in the career of a Pole. It was the third failure of the speedway riders from Lublin, after Jack Holder and Fredrik Lindgren delivered the “zeros” in their first starts.

The Islanders ruled the track. Bewley, which seems to have been created for driving in such conditions. The Brit not only presented almost perfect starts, but also, thanks to intelligent driving, did not allow his rivals to take the slightest fight. The top three were completed by Lambert and Woffinden and it seemed that only Zmarzlik could make a fight with them in any way.

After twelve trips to the track, it was in vain to look for the white and red in the lead. Maciej Janowski seemed to be excluded from the competition with two “eyes” on his account, and Dudek and Zmarzlik, having scored five points each, could count on the semi-final, but their performance did not herald a fight in the further phase of the competition, which was still uncertain due to the rain. As usual, however, the pupil of Stal Gorzów denied everything that could be expected.

The star of Platinum Motor Lublin proved that the accident at work in race five did not confuse him. He won on the next occasion, thanks to which he was almost sure of appearing in the semi-finals before the last series of racing. In this he had to defend the honor of Polish speedway, surrounded by fantastically fit Anglo-Saxons, who occupied the first four places after the main round.

In the first semi-final, Doyle and Lambert won the promotion, mainly due to better starting grids, but also confirming how strong they were throughout the whole competition. In the second of them, the three-time world champion showed his best racing. Lie to the fact that you can’t win anything from the third field, asked the second of the Goats. The popular “Fretka” took advantage of Woffinden’s mistake and the Lublin couple completed the finals.

For dessert, the best speedway rider in the world did not give his rivals a chance. In accordance with the spirit of fair play, the Australian from Wilki Krosno behaved, who quickly got back from the track after the fall. He didn’t lie on the pavement hoping for a replay, even though he was leading during the incident. Far behind the winner’s back came an Englishman representing the colors of Apator Toruń, and the podium was completed by Lindgren. This confirms the fantastic form of the Lubliners at the start of the season. First of all, the return to optimal disposal of the Swede, who received a large portion of criticism after the match in Częstochowa, is pleasing.
