The sixth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation: what is known

As UNIAN reported earlier, on May 4, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presented sixth package of EU sanctions against Russiaincluding the oil embargo and Sberbank’s disconnection from SWIFT.

At the same time in the Hungarian government saidthat the European Union’s plan for a total ban on Russian oil imports is unsatisfactory because it threatens Hungary’s energy security.

According to Bloomberg sources, EU proposed revise the oil embargo against the Russian Federation and allow Hungary and Slovakia to buy Russian oil by the end of 2024, in the Czech Republic – until June 2024.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba noted that the failure of all member countries of the European Union to decide on the introduction of the sixth package of sanctions with an oil embargo against the Russian Federation would be too generous a gift for President Vladimir Putin.

On May 5, it became known that the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Kirill may be subject to EU sanctions. According to Reuters, the sanctions could lead to an asset freeze and a travel ban.
