Vitamin A deficiency is rare in industrialized countries. Vitamin A deficiency can manifest as night blindness and dry eyes. Vitamin A deficiency can also increase the symptoms of dry skin.

If you eat a lot of carrots every day, your skin may start to get an orange tint. However, this is usually not dangerous.

In the long term, high intake of vitamin A can cause osteoporosis, and in very high amounts it can cause liver damage. Abundant consumption of liver products and unnecessary use of vitamin A supplements is therefore not recommended.

Even a slight long-term excess intake of vitamin A, i.e. 1,500 micrograms per day, has been linked to an increased risk of osteoporosis. For this reason, higher doses of vitamin A are not recommended for postmenopausal women with a high risk of osteoporosis.
