The emergencies of Chartres “in great suffering” according to the inter-union

“The wait for patients in the emergency room can last up to five or eight hours! The emergency personnel of Chartres filed a strike notice which began this Thursday morning.

It concerns all professionals of all ranks in the emergency department of the Chartres hospital center. It runs until July 8 and some are threatening to extend it if no concrete solution is found quickly.
The staff had not previously wished to spread their demands in the public square.

A great suffering of the staff

“The inaction of the management as well as their public declarations displaying an apparent serenity concerning the summer and the emergency service force us to react”, confides Stéphane Gaudemer, secretary of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT).
“The staff is in great pain, with a lot of moral and physical exhaustion. We have been talking to management for months, but without a concrete answer. The proposed solutions are far from suitable, ”slips one of the spokespersons for the emergency collective. This service averages between 120 and 150 entries per day.

Multiple claims

Faced with this growing flow of patients, certain violent situations have been observed many times.
Emergency personnel are calling for the creation of six positions and additional beds. “We want the creation of twenty additional beds, while the ARS (regional health agency) itself claims a daily need for thirty beds,” says Camille Jardat, one of the spokespersons.

A general review of the organization of emergencies in connection with the various specialized services is also called for. Equipment (stretchers, infusion stands, etc.) is requested. “Delays concerning medical imaging must be reduced and our safety vis-à-vis patients must be improved” claims a protester.

On the management side, it is believed that changes are underway. “We have created a bed management cell and a replacement pool for critical care” assures Yvon Le Tilly, deputy director of Chartres Hospitals. According to him, “the situation is less critical than in other French establishments. »
For Stéphane Gaudemer of the CGT, speaking on behalf of the intersyndicale, “management turns a deaf ear, but their hands are tied because of the budget deficit. If the ARS has been able to create positions in Dreux, it must also be possible to find this funding in Chartres. »
