The death of Hamidi Daham Al-Jarba, the sheikh of the Shammar tribe in Syria • Al-Marsad newspaper

Al-Marsad Newspaper: Hamidi Daham Al-Hadi Al-Jarba, the sheikh of the Shammar Arab tribe in Syria, died yesterday Thursday at the age of 86.

Activists and bloggers from Syria, Iraq and the Gulf states, including the sheikhs, mourned the Shammar tribe sheikh, who is said to have died in a hospital in the city of Erbil, in the Kurdistan region, after a fight with a disease i details of which were not disclosed.

The Shammar tribe’s Twitter account mourned the deceased, describing him as “the leader of the island in Syria”.

Interestingly, the deceased lived for years in the Kurdistan region of Iraq before the outbreak of the war in Syria, and is considered to be one of the most prominent sheikhs who allied with the autonomous democratic administration in northern and eastern Syria and has assumed leadership positions in the Autonomous Administration, where he was elected governor of the Jazira region several years ago.
