The Community allocates 600,000 euros for an insurance policy for national and international tourists due to Covid

MURCIA, 25 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Governing Council, at the proposal of the Ministry of Tourism, Youth and Sports, has authorized the expenditure of 600,000 euros through the Tourism Institute of the Region of Murcia (Itrem) to tender and subscribe a travel assistance insurance policy , due to the risks derived from the pandemic by covid-19.

Within the actions to reactivate the flow of tourists, during the gradual recovery period expected in the coming months, at least starting in the summer, the Region has decided to take out travel assistance insurance to cover possible medical incidents that could have, as a consequence of covid-19, tourists visiting the Region. This action is considered a key tool to promote the recovery of the sector.

The objective is to ensure national and international tourists who arrive in the Region of Murcia, between June 2021 and June 2022, the coverage of health expenses, specifically, medical, surgical, pharmaceutical and hospitalization expenses; repatriation or return home for health reasons; repatriation or return due to death and the extension of stay due to quarantine or isolation due to covid-19. The authorization of the expenditure corresponds to two exercises: 300,000 euros, for 2021, and the same amount to be paid in 2022.

This contract will offer an ideal framework to encourage the arrival of national and international tourists to the Community, and will be included within the actions planned to encourage tourists to choose the destination, and most importantly, it will contribute to the improvement of the image of the Region of Murcia.
