As an example of stress caused by too much bureaucracy In everyday life, Erbe mentions the European Union’s posting directive, which has been implemented into international law. “For Baden-Württemberg with active trade across the borders to Switzerland or France, this is an everyday problem that basically affects all sectors,” says Erbe. He criticizes the fact that there is no central reporting portal for all countries. In addition, documents must be filled out in the respective national language, which represents a linguistic barrier. This causes delays and some companies need external service providers for this. “Finally, issuing the certificate takes up to several days, which makes short-term work assignments almost impossible.” The goal of removing obstacles to the freedom to provide services in the European Union will not be achieved in this way.
Erbe demands that when it comes to reducing bureaucracy, simple measures with big effects are implemented quickly and reach companies. “In practice, it often depends on lower-level authorities, which then slow down processes or re-bureaucratize them.” The BWIHK President is positive about the fact that the topic of reducing bureaucracy has now become part of politics at European, federal and state levels.
The chambers of commerce and industry in the southwest also criticize the excessive bureaucracy. The IHK Region Stuttgart has set up its own contact point for companies with its “bureaucracy check”. There they can report what they believe to be unnecessary bureaucratic regulations. The IHK then tries to develop solutions from this. The IHK Ulm recently called for a demonstration against too much bureaucracy. She cited the hospitality industry as an example. Restaurateurs spend 14 hours a week in Ulm complying with regulations and requirements.
