The prosecutor of the Public Ministry, Miriam Aída Reguero Sosa, would have been detained by agents of the National Civil Police (PNC), with the accompaniment of the investigating entity.

She was arrested during a raid at her residence on Mateo Flores Road, zone 7 of the capital. She will be transferred to the Court Tower where she has to clarify her legal situation.

According to preliminary information, Reguero Sosa faces charges for the crimes of abuse of authority and breach of duties, for which she will soon be transferred to the Torre de Tribunales.

On March 27, this prosecutor was the victim of an armed attack in zone 9 of the capital, near the General Diseases Hospital of the Guatemalan Institute of Social Security (IGSS), when she was traveling in a van.

As a result of the attack, she was injured, while her mother, Miriam Sosa, 65, and her security agent Carlos Humberto González, 55, lost their lives.

Due to this fact, the Public Ministry opened an investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office against the crime of Femicide, since everything indicates that it is a personal attack against the official who serves in the liquidating prosecutor’s office.

According to the information released by the authorities, those responsible for the incident were men who dressed similarly to agents of the National Civil Police (PNC).

Reguero has been the victim of two attacks of this type during her tenure in the Public Ministry, since on October 28, 2022 she also suffered an armed incident in zone 3 of the capital, in which she was also injured by a gunshot.
