The Bachelor Contestants Display Intellectual Poverty: Shocking Answers to General Knowledge Questions

People who don’t like brain teasers like “The Bachelor” pulled a stunning display of intellectual poverty last night. The program brought together shock, confusion, ridicule and rebuke that only PISA results and matriculation pearls can reproduce.

The participants of the reality show were challenged to answer questions from general culture, and from the test they had painful thoughts.

When asked which contemporary Bulgarian author and whose work won the Booker prize last year, some answered “Ivan Vazov”, others – “Aleko Konstantinov”, and others – “kitten”.

One of the contestants made half of the answer by writing that the author was Georgi Gospodinov, but slipped up with the assumption that “Time Separated” was the winning novel.

On another question – what is the basic law in the Republic of Bulgaria, one part of the participants thought it was the Constitution, others admitted that they did not know, and a third said that man is the fundamental law.

Did you laugh? Let’s now take a closer look at last night’s friend.

Under the video of the question in “The Bachelor”, I ran into an argument about the topic – is it important that the girls on the show have any common culture.

How will it be useful for them in life, and where will their knowledge of the basic subjects from school be tested, once they have submitted a presentation about love and dumping?

Around the group of reporters of “The Bachelor”, however, a more toxic idea for society is developing – that it is better to learn from life and from your personal experience, and not from books and textbooks.

And those memorable facts that can be googled in a few seconds are unnecessary nonsense.

It is as if the practice of memory and the general culture until now are old-fashioned.

Sorry, but that’s complete bullshit.

Lately, I’ve been troubling the popular belief that you don’t need to be an encyclopedia in our information age. There was nothing to stress about. It is important that a person only understands the profession, even if he is a fridge seller, for example.

And since no one knows the difference between an atom and a molecule, it is not particularly important.

But common culture is extremely important, and not because that is the tradition, but because that is how the human thinking ability works.

The human brain needs information from different areas to make meaningful connections and associations. The more information he has drawn from different fields – language, art, mathematics, the better he is at making decisions, evaluating situations and people, processing data.

That is the simple biological principle.

The theory can be easily translated into the aspect of life.

The more a person reads, educates, and is able to comment on a wide range of issues, the more likely he is to draw appropriate conclusions from what happens to him.

In simple language – the literate can learn from their mistakes and are more likely not to spend their whole life spinning in a vicious circle.

The rest are hooded horses. They let the hardships of life beat them down, but they are unable to make sense or analyze what is hitting them. They deal with leads, hope for luck, tie a red thread and wait for the problem to pass on its own.

Separately, it is an absolute nightmare to talk to people with a murderous low culture.

Their narrow views prevent them from understanding anything more than their personal character and domestic touch.

Look at the number of participants in “The Bachelor”, they are the perfect manifesto of this thesis. They cannot hold a normal conversation about which one of them is false, simple or hypocritical.

We cannot speak of informed and rational statements at all. Because this is not just a trademark of the show, it is the way in which there is a strong part of the society in our country.

If it is just a matter of household level, there is no problem that these people are “6 without 10”. It’s even funny when they go to an institution and submit an application full of spelling mistakes or when they can’t find the discount at the store.

But the same people who have very little common culture are electing a government that will shape the face of our daily lives, that will incite rebellion against reforms in education and health care, and that will influence on public life based on their knowledge and sensitive interests.

What for men are usually bored with cars, women and football, and for women with makeup, clothes and home recipes.

Knowing and trying to understand at least a little of the world around you is a matter of personal honor for me.

What kind of representative of your species are you if you can’t connect two rational stories about different areas of human reality?

In conclusion – drama is in my opinion that it will be understood by people who have enough common culture and broad ideas and who do not need to hear it.

And the rest – like the girls in “The Bachelor” – will keep asking what the problem is that they don’t know common facts. What does literature, mathematics, geography, history have to do with them and who am I to give them information about education and culture.
