the artists sing Violeta Parra

RDV CULTURE – More than fifty years after her death, artists from jazz and lyric pay homage to the Chilean singer, pioneer of Latin American folk. An overwhelming concert, to discover on arte.tv.

Violeta Parra, icon of Chilean song and South American folk, died fifty-four years ago: the opportunity to commemorate the timelessness of her repertoire, revisited last October 19 by a bunch of artists from lyrical (tenor Emiliano Gonzalez Toro, soprano Mathilde Étienne), jazz (such as the Enhco brothers on piano and brass), not to mention guitarist Leo Rondón or Paloma Pradal, whose flamenco singing takes heart. Placed facing the ocean on the shores of the Arcachon basin, their homage, built on sometimes familiar tunes (the famous Thanks to life, the militant Run Run went north …), transports us to the frontiers of an inexhaustible Latin imagination.
