Smartphones come in all price ranges and they keep getting better. And that means affordable models are increasingly good value for money. For example, many midrange devices – the price range up to 500 euros – now have features that were previously reserved for top models.
Think of a smooth 120Hz screen, a powerful processor and the option of wireless charging. Since there are many different midrange models on the market, you may not know which ones are above ground level.
The editors of Android Planet test as many smartphones as possible and list the five best smartphones up to 500 euros below – in random order.
1. Samsung Galaxy A52 5G

Of Samsung Galaxy A52 5G is one of the most popular Android smartphones of the moment and rightly so. The phone is remarkably complete and has many positives, with minimal negatives.
For example, the A52 5G is equipped with a colorful OLED screen and the housing is waterproof and dustproof. The smartphone is nice and fast, offers a long battery life and charges quickly. Also nice are the versatile cameras and the large storage memory of 128GB.
Another plus is the software: Samsung supplies the A52 with Android 11, promises three Android updates and four years of security updates. So you are assured of updates until the spring of 2025.

Of Little F3 is one of the fastest devices in its class and also offers fine specifications. It can therefore rightly call itself one of the best smartphones up to 500 euros. The device runs on the powerful Snapdragon 870 processor, supplemented with 6GB or 8GB of RAM. The storage space is 128GB or 256GB respectively.
The screen of the Poco F3 is nice and large with 6.67 inches and the OLED display delivers beautiful colors. Poco puts a large 4520 mAh battery in the smartphone and provides a powerful fast charger.
The device has three cameras on the back, runs on Android 11 and will receive version and security updates for at least two years. So you are up-to-date with the smartphone until at least April 2023.

3. OnePlus Nord 2

With the OnePlus Nord 2 you get a surprisingly complete smartphone that also charges super fast. This is thanks to the 65 Watt charger, which brings the large 4500 mAh battery from 0 to 100 percent in half an hour.
The smartphone is made of glass, has a 6.43-inch OLED screen and at least 8GB of RAM. That is remarkably much for a device in this price segment. The Nord 2 uses three cameras on the back, runs on a powerful Dimensity 1200 processor with 5G support and is equipped with Android 11.
OnePlus guarantees updates to Android 12 and 13 and will roll out security updates until the summer of 2024.

4. Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G

Do you want a complete and powerful smartphone, but do you find most models in this price segment too large and/or too heavy? Then the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G worth watching. With 159 grams, this device is one of the lightest modern smartphones and only 6.81 millimeters thick.
The Mi 11 Lite 5G has a beautiful OLED screen of no less than 6.55 inches, 6GB of RAM and a smooth Snapdragon 780 processor. There is also a Mi 11 Lite 4G for sale, with a lower price but also lesser specifications. The 5G model is therefore a better buy.
The smartphone runs on Android 11 and will receive updates for at least two years, so certainly until the spring of 2023.

5. Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 4G

Of Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is a cheaper variant of the S20 and offers a competitive price-quality ratio. The device has a beautiful 6.5-inch OLED screen, fast processor and long battery life. Also count on three good cameras, the option of wireless charging and long-term software support.
After the previous Android 11 update, Samsung still guarantees Android updates to versions 12 and 13 and promises security updates until the fall of 2024.
You can buy the S20 FE in two versions: with 4G and with 4G and 5G. Because 5G will remain as fast as 4G for a while and the 5G version is a lot more expensive, we recommend the 4G version to most people.
