Testimony of the Horrible Deadly Shooting in California, USA during Chinese New Year Celebration

Nine people have been reported dead so far in a mass shooting during the Lunar New Year festival in Monterey Park, California, USA. A resident recounted the testimony of the deadly shooting during Chinese New Year celebrations in CaliforniaAS.

Reported by AFP, Sunday (22/1/2023), according to reports, the shooting occurred at a dance venue an hour after the Chinese New Year celebrations on Saturday local time. The suspect in the shooting is a man.

AFP quoted a local newspaper, the Los Angeles Times, regarding the testimony of eyewitnesses when the shooting occurred. Local resident Wong Wei told the Los Angeles Times his friend was at a dance club and was in the bathroom when the shooting occurred.

When his friend came out, he saw a gunman and three bodies at the scene. The three bodies consisted of two women and one person who was said to be the club boss.

The newspaper reported that Seung Won Choi, owner of a seafood restaurant near the scene, said three people ran into his restaurant and told him to lock the door.

All three said there was a man with a semi-automatic weapon carrying a large amount of ammunition. The gunman would reload whenever he ran out of bullets, Choi told the newspaper.

The Times reported that tens of thousands of people had gathered the previous day for the two-day Lunar New Year festival. The event has been called one of the largest in California south.
