Tesla Model S and X with new detail, waiting for batteries> teslamag.de

As predicted by the hacker @greentheonly on Twitter shortly before, Tesla has made a change to its premium electric cars Model S and Model X – but contrary to expectations, at least for the time being only a relatively insignificant one: Tesla Model S and X are now equipped with a device for delivered wireless charging of mobile phones, reports the blog Electrek. Unlike the Model 3, it is included free of charge, but like this, it must be connected to one of the free USB sockets.

“New hardware on the go,” @greentheonly, who also published visualizations of the inner workings of Tesla’s autopilot system, announced on Twitter last week. The wireless pad for Model S and Model X now shown in a video was included in its list. However, in addition to this, the hacker had seen an even more significant change coming that has so far not proven to be true: two new battery types for the two large electric cars from Tesla.

Some Tesla observers and prospects had hoped to find out more about upcoming changes to Tesla Model S and Model X at the conference call after the release of the latest business figures for 2019 – including the batteries previously mentioned by @greentheonly, according to its code – Analysis should be available in three months at the latest.

But the only question in this direction has been rejected. A private investor wanted to know whether Tesla would switch to Model 21 “2170” batteries due to stagnating sales of Model S and Model X (the question was submitted beforehand and read out by a Tesla employee). Musk then explained that only the “18650” format had remained the same for Model S and Model X, but the chemistry inside had been improved many times.

Tesla was “pretty happy” with the energy content of the 18650 cells, Musk said. Together with improvements in the efficiency of electric cars, the Model S, for example, quickly comes closer to a range of 400 miles. It would not be long before this value was reached. Tesla currently specifies a range of 373 miles for the Model S in the USA according to the EPA standard. In reality, according to Musk, it is already a little over 380 miles – “we just didn’t have time to update it”

Sooner or later, however, Tesla Model S and Model X will get larger batteries together with the new “plaid” drive, because Musk already confirmed this last autumn. It should be ready by the end of this year, he now affirmed. A Tesla investor day is also expected with great interest this April, at which Tesla wants to present a “overwhelming” strategy according to Musk for more and more efficient batteries, presumably from our own production.
