A number of innovations await future drivers in Ukraine in the near future in terms of issuing a document and admission to driving. by car.
According to the press service Ministry of Internal Affairs, this is due to the decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of September 22. They said that a mark on the passing of a practical exam on a vehicle with an automatic transmission in the form of a code “78” in column 12 of the license will be indicated in the driver’s license. Owners of certificates with a similar mark will be able to drive only a car with automatic transmission, and in its absence – with any one. Those drivers who got their license earlier will not feel the changes.

In addition, the validity period of the result of a successfully passed theoretical exam at the service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was increased. Previously, it was three months, now it is two years. “But no longer than the validity period of the certificate of graduation from the institution for training drivers of vehicles,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs specified.
Also, drivers were exempted from the mandatory provision of documents confirming driving skills when opening a lower category or category with a trailer.
The form of reflection of driving restrictions on the driver’s license will also change. Now they will be designated in the form of codes – as in the European Union, and not by pictograms, as it was before.
As codes are displayed:
- medical reasons for the restrictions (glasses, hearing aids, limb prostheses, etc.);
- vehicle adaptation (modified transmission, adapted clutch pedal, modified braking systems, etc.);
- driving only during the daytime, only without passengers, within a city / region, and the like.
The changes will also affect the procedure for taking exams. Now, in the case of the simultaneous opening of two categories, exams (exam) are taken according to the highest of them (except for categories B1, B, BE):
- when opening categories C and C1, theoretical and practical exams are taken only in category C;
- when the driver’s license is returned after the deprivation of the right to drive, if there are several open categories in it, the theoretical and practical exams are also passed in a higher category.
“All innovations will be introduced immediately after the promulgation of the said decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, except for the innovation concerning the indication of an automatic transmission in a driver’s license, which will be implemented within three months,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
