Preparations for Pope Francis’ visit to Budapest have caused a terrible scandal. One of the minibuses from the Holy Father’s motorcade killed a 30-year-old man who was crossing a pedestrian path, and also at a green traffic light.
The victim is Slovak triathlete Jakub Mesaros. The athlete was going to a friend’s bachelor party when the tragedy happened shortly after 8:00 p.m. Curiously, the morning before he lost his life, Mesaros won another race.

According to witnesses, the triathlete crossed the road at a green traffic light after a long column of specialized cars passed through the intersection at high speed. Unfortunately, however, he was hit by a late van, and after the collision his body was thrown 20 meters away.
Jakub Mesaros died of his wounds, although two ambulance crews responded to the scene very quickly. The initial conclusion of the investigation indicates that the killer driver was probably behind the rest of the convoy, tried to catch up with his colleagues and therefore went red.
The tragedy occurred when drivers were exploring the route of Pope Francis’ upcoming trip through the streets of Budapest. The Holy Father is expected in the Hungarian capital on September 12 (Sunday) and will attend the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress.
