Mitt Romney narrowly escaped the mob

The senators were just barely able to get to safety when they rushed the Capitol. Some almost ran into the angry mob. This is shown by previously unpublished video recordings.
During the storming of the US Capitol, a police officer saved prominent Republican Senator Mitt Romney from a last-minute clash with the intruders, according to a video. The prosecutors in the impeachment proceedings against ex-President Donald Trump showed footage from surveillance cameras of the January 6 incident on Wednesday.
The previously unpublished footage shows police officer Eugene Goodmann walking down a corridor of the Capitol and warning the senator on his way. Romney immediately turns around and starts walking. Romney is known as a prominent inner-party critic of Trump. There is no telling what could have happened if the senator had met the angry supporters of Trump.
The policeman Goodman was already known for having faced a mob of intruders on his own elsewhere. He provoked the intruders to lure them away from an open door of the Senate Chamber. At the swearing in of US President Joe Biden and his deputy Kamala Harris on January 20, Goodman was therefore given the honor of escorting the vice president. There are also plans in Congress to honor him with an award.
Prosecutors rely on emotional evidence
In the impeachment trial against Donald Trump, the prosecutors came up with further previously unpublished material. Democratic MP Eric Swalwell, one of the prosecutors in Trump’s impeachment trial, presented a video showing another dicey situation. The footage shows how the then minority leader of the Senate, Chuck Schumer, and his security guards suddenly have to turn around to save themselves from the intruders in the Capitol. Prosecutors also presented a video showing then-Vice President Mike Pence apparently being escorted out of the Senate Chamber to safety just in time. Recordings can be heard of the mob demanding that Pence be hung.
Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol on January 6th. Congress met there to certify the election victory of Trump’s successor Joe Biden, under the leadership of Pence. Five people were killed on the brink of the riot, including a police officer. Trump had stirred up his supporters at a rally shortly before with the claim that his election victory had been stolen.
The nine democratic MPs who represent the prosecution now rely on substantive arguments in addition to emotional evidence. You want to convince the senators of a guilty verdict against Trump. At the same time, they are addressing the public.
