Teams innovations on desktop, iOS and Android

20. August 2020 –
Microsoft has missed various innovations for teams. For example, you can rearrange applications in the sidebar of the desktop app, together mode is available, there is more space for video callers in iOS and you can take part in a meeting without a Teams account in Android.

Microsoft has added new functions to Teams in the desktop app as well as for iOS and Android. It is now possible on the desktop to adapt the teams sidebar or to rearrange the apps. This works using drag & drop, while apps can be added or removed using the three-dot menu. Another innovation of teams on the desktop also concerns the individual backgrounds, which have been defined for some time. Previously, this had to be set anew every time you start it, but it is now possible to permanently define your own background.

The announced Together Mode will also be introduced – a new mode for video conferences with more than five participants, especially intended for the educational sector. With the mode, the participants are placed in a lecture hall background using AI. There is also a new view on the desktop with 7×7 participants. For these innovations you have to select the option “Activate new meeting experience” in the teams settings.

An update of the Teams app for iOS now allows more video call participants on the screen. On the iPhone, the app can now display 2×4 video participants, on the iPad 3×3. Also new is the ability to limit the data consumption of teams, as well as a daily agenda that shows the upcoming meetings. A Teams update for Android now makes it possible to send invitations to meetings via a link to people who do not have a Teams account so that they can also participate. There is also a new search function on Android within chats and channels, and you can upload images directly to your own gallery. (mw)
