Taliban claim to seize 169 districts in Afghanistan

The Taliban control a significant part of the territory of Afghanistan

The Afghan military made a tactical retreat as part of a regrouping, according to Kabul.

Militants of the radical Taliban movement captured a total of 169 districts in different provinces of Afghanistan. This was stated by their representative Zabiullah Mujahid, RIA Novosti reported on Thursday, July 8.

Over the past two months, the Taliban have seized 167 out of nearly 400 districts and last night took control of two more districts – in the provinces of Herat and Zabul, said a spokesman for the movement.

“The total number of regions captured by our mujahideen has reached 169,” Mujahid said.

The Taliban also claim they have taken control of 85% of the country. In turn, the former representative of the Ministry of Defense of Afghanistan, General Davlat Vaziri, denied this statement.

“The Taliban’s assertion is not true,” he said, noting that in the past, representatives of the movement also unfoundedly stated that they control more than 60% or 70% of the territory.

Meanwhile, General Ajmal Shinfari, a spokesman for the security and defense sector, argues that the areas did not fall to militant onslaught, and the security forces made a tactical retreat as part of a regrouping. According to him, the military recently recaptured 14 districts.

Eve in Afghanistan announced a critical phase of the war with the Taliban… The military situation in the country has become extremely aggravated against the backdrop of the withdrawal of American troops and their NATO allies.

Recall that The United States has 90% completed the withdrawal of its troops from Afghanistan. The withdrawal of American troops is still ongoing. Materials equivalent to approximately 984 C-17 aircraft were removed from the country.
