Switzerland expanded sanctions against Belarus

Restrictive measures for the migration crisis will affect a number of officials, as well as the Belavia airline, the Grodno Azot enterprise and Belorusneft.

The Swiss authorities have imposed sanctions against a number of organizations and individuals in Belarus. Belavia is also on the sanctions list, as evidenced by data published by the country’s State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

“The Ministry of Economy, Education and Science of Switzerland has amended Appendices 7 and 8 to the decree on measures against Belarus dated December 17, 2021. Seventeen individuals and eleven companies and organizations were recently included in Appendix 7,” the ministry said in a statement. The restrictions will come into effect on December 20 at 18:00.

In particular, sanctions were introduced against the press secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Anatoly Glaz, the head of the State Border Committee Anatoly Lappo, Belavia airlines, Grodno Azot and Belorusneft enterprises, as well as the Syrian airline Cham Wings.

The criteria for the EU sanctions regime on Belarus expanded on November 15 made it possible to add to the lists those whom Brussels considered involved in the migration crisis near the Belarusian borders.

Earlier in Minsk assessed losses from new sanctions at 250-300 million dollars in annual terms and promised give an answer to Western countries.
