Hotels and restaurants are the sectors most affected by the coronavirus crisis in Switzerland. More than a fifth of added value will collapse in 2020, against 2.5% for the economy as a whole, predicts the BAK Economics institute.
Accommodation is even more affected (-25.6%) than catering (-18.6%) by the economic and health consequences of the Covid-19, said a statement on Thursday. Customers are unlikely to postpone their dates of stay later. In addition, even if the measures soften, international travel is likely to be shorter in the future.
By canton, accommodation fell by between 21 and 30%. Unsurprisingly, Ticino, one of the most affected by coronavirus cases, suffers the most, while spring and summer are important seasons. (AWP)
